Friar Gate Bridge Gets a Facelift
Over the next twelve months, the historic bridge on Friar Gate will benefit from a serious revamp including a new paint job.
To increase the chances of winning a lottery grant for it to be transformed, Bondholder Derby City Council has set aside £260,000 for the work to be carried out.

“The £260,000 had been set aside in the authority’s capital budget for the next 12 months to make it look a lot more attractive than it does at the moment.”
Friar Gate Bridge was originally constructed in 1878 by Andrew Handyside & Co to avoid the train line going over what was regarded as the best street in Derby. When the railway line closed, the bridge was sold to the council in 1967 for the sum of £1.
