Matthew Montague Architects has said that work is well underway on the conversion of a historic hall in Derby into luxury residences.

Set within five acres of grounds, Littleover Hall was the headquarters of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service until 2018.

Now, the Victorian mansion is being converted into three distinctive residences.

Working closely with property developers Ivygrove Homes, Matthew Montague Architects, in collaboration with Jim Malkin at JMI Planning, secured planning permission for the sensitive conversion of this 1891 Alexander MacPherson-designed building.

The approved scheme divides the hall vertically into three substantial homes, each retaining the grandeur and character of the original architecture while providing contemporary living spaces.

The site’s transformation has already seen significant progress, with the removal of various utilitarian buildings that previously surrounded the hall.

In their place, Ivygrove Homes has created a development of luxury new homes, with the historic hall as the centrepiece of the scheme.

Matthew Montague said: “This is a landmark building that holds special significance for many Derby residents.

“Our design approach focuses on preserving the hall’s architectural heritage while adapting it for modern family living.

“Each home will have four to five bedrooms while maintaining the building’s impressive original façade.

“Inside, as many features as possible are being retained and refurbished, including its magnificent wood panelling and fine oak staircase.

“The building has been carefully stripped back to its shell, allowing for a thorough assessment and treatment of the structure.

“Initial surveys have revealed the building to be in remarkably good condition, requiring only minor repairs to the original roof.”

The project, part of Ivygrove Homes’ Stephenson Gardens development, is expected to complete within 12 months.

Simon Overton, from Ivygrove Homes, said: “We’re delighted with the progress being made at Littleover Hall.

“The building’s transformation, guided by Matthew Montague Architects’ expertise, will ensure this local landmark continues to be a vital part of Littleover’s landscape for generations to come.”
