Why we invested in Derby: The Berry Group
The Berry Group is a family-owned business – established by partners Sarah Clowes and Sam Berry in 2015 – which today is one of the region’s most exciting development companies.
It has extensive expertise across the property development industry, spanning investment, project management, construction, design and lettings.
The group’s portfolio is now valued at £12 million and is projected to hit £20 million within the next 18 months.
The Berry Group has expanded its portfolio significantly since 2022.
This includes land on the corner of Slack Lane and Uttoxeter Old Road in Derby, which is being developed into a contemporary three-storey student accommodation comprising 44 studios.
Properties at 22-24, 36, and 46-48 Green Lane are being transformed into a mixed-use development and nine studio apartments and one commercial unit are being developed in Babington Lane in Derby.
Berry’s latest scheme is North Lodge, a new-build property with a value of around £2.6 million when completed.
Explaining why the group is so committed to investing in Derby, managing director Sam Berry said: “All our team are from Derby and, although we are actively working on schemes across the East Midlands, the city of Derby is where we really want to make a difference.
“We believe in delivering excellence in construction and development and are committed to driving positive change and growth in Derby’s property landscape.
“For instance, there will be new residential use in our Green Lane and Babington Lane schemes, which will support Derby City Council’s goal of providing additional, affordable city centre living.
“These buildings will also play a key role within the Becketwell regeneration scheme and provide the city centre with some much-needed high end accommodation and fresh commercial space.
“Our Babington Lane scheme will feature ground-floor commercial units to the frontage, which will provide a much-needed uplift to the existing street scene.
“We are committed to reducing our impact on the environment too. This includes the creation of an eco-friendly infrastructure, implementing energy-efficient technologies, and prioritising sustainable, modern methods of construction.
“Investing in Derby will lead to successful projects that will benefit both the business and the local community, fostering growth, stability, and a lasting legacy of superior craftsmanship and innovation.”
