University extends cricket club partnership
The University of Derby has agreed a new three-year strategic partnership with Derbyshire County Cricket Club, which will continue to see students get the chance to develop within the world of professional sport.
A long-time ‘preferred partner’ of the club, the university has worked with Derbyshire to forge a link between sport and education, with various students getting the opportunity to hone their skills.
From working with the first-team analysts and coaches, to being a crucial cog in Derbyshire’s Live Stream and media operations, this partnership has seen a number of students move into roles within professional sport off the back of their experience with the cricket club.
Jimmy Drew, commercial manager at Derbyshire, said: “Our partnership with the University of Derby has been a fruitful one in recent years and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together in the next three years.
“As an alumni of the university, it’s been so rewarding to see so many University of Derby students get a strong start to their careers, boosted by their work within our organisation and we’re sure there will be plenty more success stories to come.”
Ollie Shearer, the university’s director of sport, said: “This continuing partnership will create even more fantastic opportunities for students to put their learning into practice and build important industry connections.”
