Train maker shows backing for community projects

Alstom has announced the latest beneficiaries of its community fund โ which includes a project run by Derby Food 4 Thought Alliance.
In total, 10 projects across the UK and Ireland will benefit from a combined ยฃ140,000 from the firmโs Community Project Fund.
The aim of the fund is to support projects that deliver social and environmental value in the local communities the company operates in.
Alstom has operations across the two countries โ but its largest site is its Litchurch Lane factory in Derby.
The 10 charities and community-led projects were nominated by Alstom employees, who are encouraged to use their annual volunteering day to offer additional support to the beneficiaries.

Colin Haynes, environment, health and safety director at Alstom UK and Ireland, said: โItโs fantastic to be able to award another round of funding for charities and community-led projects across the UK and Ireland.
โI was humbled to review the applications, as many of the projects were seeking relatively modest grants which, in turn, make a significant difference to peopleโs lives and prospects.โ
Among this yearโs beneficiaries is Derby Food 4 Thought Allianceโs Christmas Meals campaign.
The project gifts 300 families a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and pudding โ plus mince pies and chocolates.
It means that parents donโt have to choose between presents, heating or food for their family.
Alstom staff are also supporting the charity with streamlining its processes.
Another Derby beneficiary is Reach, of which Reach Events is part.
Alstomโ support will go towards the Reach Community Store, where surplus food will be offered to people struggling to put food on their own tables at heavily discounted prices.
Mr Haynes said: โItโs essential that we reflect the communities we serve, and the Community Project Fund is just one way we can do this.
โBy supporting initiatives that address social and environmental needs, we not only contribute to the well-being of these communities, but also reinforce Alstomโs commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility.โ
