People can now take a ‘virtual tour’ of the Derby City Lab following a collaboration with MiniAperture Photography.

Laura Firth, founder of MiniAperture, recently visited the St James Street venue to create a 360-degree tour that has since been published on Google Maps.

Manned by Marketing Derby staff, as well as its ‘changemakers’, Derby City Lab is designed to engage people in the city’s future, by hosting exhibitions and events.

The venue, which has been selected as a finalist for this year’s prestigious EG Awards, is open every week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12noon to 4pm.

But now, thanks to the virtual tour, people can wander in and explore the space any time they like.

Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “There is nothing better than visiting the lab in person.

“However, the virtual tour gives potential visitors a better understanding of what takes place in the lab, an inside view of the City Living Room and the dynamic space available for exhibitions.

“The tour will be a useful tool for us. We are really impressed with the quality of the work and how Laura has perfectly captured the space.”

Laura said: “I wanted to help improve the Derby City Lab’s visibility and increase footfall and make the biggest possible impact for organisations and businesses using the space for exhibitions.

“Creating the virtual tour seemed the perfect way to do this.”

Laura created the virtual tour using top-of-the-range 3D cameras, which have produced images of such clarity and resolution, that users can get up close and personal with all of the content in the City Lab.

Currently, the City Lab is exhibiting work by architecture students from the University of Derby, which reimagines the North Riverside area of the city.

Laura said: “Following on from the Derby Property Summit, I love that Marketing Derby is currently using the space to continue showcasing the work of the architecture students at the University of Derby.

“You can really get up close to the students’ work and see every detail, which is now immortalised for people to enjoy long after the exhibition has finished.”

The next event to take place at Derby City Lab will see CRZyBest and Friends Makers and Traders take over the space from 19 September to 1 October.
