Students lead on campaign to end violence against women and girls
Students from schools across Derby have been working with Goldbox Productions to create posters in support of a campaign, which aims to end violence against women and girls.
Six male students and one female student from secondary schools across the city worked on the project as part of White Ribbon Day 2024.
They worked alongside the creative agency to produce the posters, which aim to persuade men to take action against violence targeting women and girls.
The campaign has been led by Voices in Action Youth Council, with support from Derby City Council and the Derby Youth Alliance.
White Ribbon Day, which took place last month, is an international day of awareness where men and boys show their commitment to ending violence against women and girls.
This year’s theme, ‘It Starts with Men’, focused on how men and boys can challenge attitudes and behaviours that allow violence and abuse to thrive.
The Derby students’ campaign highlighted the importance of speaking up, promoting respect, and fostering safe communities for all.
Councillor Paul Hezelgrave, deputy leader of Derby City Council and cabinet member for children, young people and skills, said: “This campaign is a wonderful example of young people stepping forward to take the lead on such an important issue.
“I’m incredibly proud of these students for their creativity and commitment to raising awareness of violence of women and girls.
“Their work demonstrates the need for us all to take responsibility in creating a safer, fairer society.”
