Sports village makes a big splash with customers
Moorways Sports Village has recorded more than 400,000 visits in the first six months since opening.
The £42 million swimming and fitness hub, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Derby City Council, opened on Saturday, May 21.
A total of 389,000 visits have been made to the new facility, with its 50-metre pool, water park, spa, fitness suite, fitness studios, café and soft play areas.
The long-established Moorways Stadium, which has track and field facilities and outdoor grass and artificial pitches, has attracted a further 33,000 visits.
The aquatic facilities, which alongside the main pool and water park include a teaching pool, have proven particularly popular with 207,000 visits alone.
Fitness visits – encompassing the 120-station fitness suite, health suite and three group exercise studios – have attracted 82,000 visits.
Around 3,900 people have taken out fitness memberships, while those receiving swimming lessons at the site has increased to 2,080.
Simon Morgan, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “It’s been a fantastic first six months.
“We knew the centre would be popular, but we’ve been bowled over by the level of demand and it’s amazing to see.
“We are thrilled that so many people are enjoying Moorways Sports Village and experiencing the wide range of activities on offer.
“Our prices are extremely fair and in return, the public are getting state-of-the-art facilities which are accessible to everyone, no matter what your age, ability or interests.
“We are really positive that we can grow our membership numbers in the coming months and that the local community will get the most out of this fantastic centre.”
Councillor Jerry Pearce, the city council’s cabinet member for Streetpride, public spaces and leisure, said: “The state-of-the-art Moorways Sports Village, provided by Derby City Council, has been fast off the starting blocks in becoming a real success for the city.
“Our partnership with Everyone Active is providing accessible, affordable leisure which is attracting visitors from around the region and engaging the local community.”
