A sculptor and garden designer has completed a gruelling running challenge, which has raised thousands of pounds for Treetops Hospice.

Ross Danby embarked on the 113-mile run through the Lake District in memory of his late wife, Jacqui.

He took part in aid of the Risley-based end of life charity, which helped the couple with counselling support.

Jacqui died in April last year, aged 56, eight years after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Ross said: “Treetops is a lovely place. The staff and the environment made me feel calm. When all this is happening to you, you need to be somewhere that makes you feel calm inside, instead of all the turmoil of your emotions.

“You know you’ve got people around you that care. It’s like getting a hug, without getting a hug. I’m indebted to Treetops for their support.”

Treetops welcomes people to take part in a wide range of challenges and events to raise money for the charity.
