Rolls-Royce chosen to deliver Czechia nuclear power
Rolls-Royce has been chosen by the Government of the Czech Republic to supply mini nuclear power stations to the country.
Rolls-Royce SMR has been named as the preferred supplier by the Czech government and the Czech State utility, CEZ Group.
It would see the firm develop and construct Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
Rolls-Royce was selected from a list of seven potential SMR technology providers following a rigorous evaluation process by CEZ Group.
Contract terms are now being finalised and the final agreements are subject to customary regulatory clearances.
Chris Cholerton, chief executive of Rolls-Royce SMR, said: “This important strategic partnership further strengthens Rolls-Royce SMR’s position as Europe’s leading SMR technology, and will put CEZ, Rolls-Royce SMR and its existing shareholders at the forefront of SMR deployment.
“Rolls-Royce SMRs will be a source of clean, affordable, reliable electricity for Czechia – creating jobs, enabling decarbonisation, reducing the reliance on imported energy and supporting the global effort to reach net zero.”
