Rising Star welcomes local councillor on nursery visit

Rosehill Day Nursery part of The Early Years Community Group – which is Marketing Derby’s Rising Star for 2025 – has hosted a special visit.

The nursery welcomed Cllr Paul Hezelgrave, cabinet member for children, young people and skills at Derby City Council, who received a personal tour by Manager Becky.

The tour showcased the setting’s commitment to high-quality early education and its role within the local community, and included an opportunity to meet the dedicated staff and a special presentation plus handmade cards from the children, who were excited to welcome their VIP guest.

“We were thrilled to host Cllr Hezelgrave and to share the wonderful work taking place at Rosehill,” said Becky, nursery manager. “His visit was a real boost for our team and a great opportunity to reflect on the positive impact we’re having on local children and families.”

Cllr Hezelgrave praised the nursery team for their focus on promoting independence in young children and preparing them for school. He also highlighted the importance of speech and language development, commending the team for their thoughtful and inclusive
approach.

Cllr Hezelgrave also shared valuable insights about the area and offered ideas for how Rosehill can further support families and children in the community.

Rosehill Day Nursery is part of The Early Years Community (EYC), offering a nurturing and engaging environment where children can explore, learn, and grow.

In January 2025, The Early Years Community was named Marketing Derby’s Rising Star for 2025 – the winner of an annual competition which aims to give a helping hand to upcoming business ventures.

Founded in 2023 by three directors, the aim of The Early Years Community is to give young children the best possible start in life.

Speaking at the time, Lindsey Hatfield, commercial development manager at Marketing Derby. said: ”We received lots of applications, but their entry really stood out in terms of what they are trying to do to help the communities in which they operate, and their passion for the city.”
