Pupils celebrate Jubilee with tree planting
Pupils at Derby High School have shown their backing for an environmental initiative launched to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
To mark her 70 years on the throne, the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative was launched, with Derby named among its ‘Champion Cities’.
It encourages people to plant trees in celebration of her reign – and the pupils did just that by planting a pear tree in the school grounds.
Its Sixth Formers have also been teaching its primary school pupils to make bunting and flags, which were used when the school came together for a recent Jubilee lunch on the sports field.
Head teacher Amy Chapman said: “This beautiful tree will bring benefits for the children now and for the future.
“The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative will be a constant reminder to our students, and future generations, of our Queen’s service and the legacy she has built.”
