New podcast to capture preparations for epic Atlantic row
Pepper Dawes Media has hooked up with Vic Handley to produce a new podcast, as he prepares for an epic challenge to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean.
Vic, from Littleover, will become the third oldest person at the age of 70 to complete the 3,000-mile solo row across the Atlantic Ocean, known as ‘The World’s Toughest Row’.
The row, which will take him from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean, is set to begin on 12 December and take up to 85 days depending on weather.
As well as being a great personal achievement, Vic hopes to raise vital funds for four local charities close to his heart – Umbrella, Derby County Community Trust, Safe and Sound and Mind Derbyshire – while boosting the city’s profile in his boat named ‘City of Derby UK’.
Vic, who before he retired worked as group managing director at geotechnical engineering contractor Van Elle, recently approached Sally Pepper, of Pepper Dawes Media, to follow his preparations in the run up to the challenge
In the new podcast, called One Man Went to Row, people will find out all about the man behind this epic challenge.
Sally, who prior to setting up Pepper Dawes Media spent many years working as a presenter with the BBC, said: “I interviewed Vic many years ago on the BBC with his construction hat and high vis on.
“He enjoyed the experience and approached me to work with him as he trusted me to give him a safe space to share his story and adventure and I feel honoured to be working alongside him.”
The One Man Went to Row podcast will launch on Tuesday 3 September, which will mark 100 days to go until he sets off from the start line at La Gomera in the Canaries.
It will allow people to follow all of his hard work so far and up to the big day. Vic even plans to be broadcasting from his boat in the middle of the Atlantic.
