Derby City Council has released new images of what the refurbished Derby Market Hall will look like once its £35 million transformation is complete.

The historic venue, which is due to reopen next year, is being given a new lease of life as an attractive retail and leisure destination.

The new images give a glimpse of the retail space, make and trade units and new dining area.

In all, the transformed market will offer a curated mix of traditional and themed stalls, including quality fresh produce.

It will also feature make and trade stalls, creative spaces, a cosmopolitan food court and bars, as well as events and pop-up activity.

Councillor Nadine Peatfield, leader of Derby City Council, said: “The transformation of Derby Market Hall is a reflection of our collective ambition to create a city that everyone can take pride in.

“While people can see the improvements we’ve made externally, many people may still be wondering what the building will look like inside.

“These new images will give the public the first idea of what the venue will look like as we make this irreplaceable heritage building fit for the future.”

The £35.1 million project is partly funded with £9.43 million from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund.

The second phase of the transformation is well underway, focusing on refurbishing the interior and developing the public space outside at Osnabruck Square.

Located at the heart of the city centre, linking Derbion and St Peters Quarter with the Cathedral Quarter and Becketwell, the revamped Market Hall is set to play a key role in widening the diversity of the city centre and generate £3.64 million for the local economy every year.

Businesses throughout the region are being invited to register their interest in operating from the refurbished Market Hall, which aims to bring together the best of the region’s independent shopping, eating, drinking and entertainment when it reopens in the spring.

Councillor Peatfield said: “This project is not just about transforming the Market Hall; it’s about bringing the people of Derby together to create a space we can all be proud of.

“We invite traders, entrepreneurs and businesses from across the region to join the vibrant community we are building.”

*Derby Museums’ Museum of Making is set to host an event tonight where traders can find out more about taking space at the revamped Derby Market Hall.

Taking place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, the social event will give attendees a range of information on what’s involved, including the support they will receive.
