Derby North MP Catherine Atkinson has backed the launch of a new social care card, which aims to acknowledge the contribution made by the carer community.

She recently hosted the launch of the Blue Sky Social Care Card at the House of Commons.

It is the brainchild of Blue Sky Brokers, part of Disability Direct.

The Social Care Card is designed to recognise, reward, and support both paid and unpaid carers. It seeks to unify the sector and provide practical benefits to those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

The House of Commons launch brought together inspiring speakers with firsthand experience and a shared passion for social care, including broadcaster Kate Garraway, who shared her personal journey as a carer for her late husband, Derek Draper.

In a statement, Blue Sky Brokers said: “The launch of this card represents a significant step toward fostering greater appreciation and systemic support for carers throughout the UK.

“It shines a spotlight on the critical role of the social care sector, ensuring that the contributions of both paid and unpaid carers are seen, valued, and celebrated.”
