Manufacturer’s staff help inspire next generation
Staff from medical device manufacturers Pennine Healthcare have been visiting schools to help inspire youngsters to get involved in manufacturing.
To mark National Manufacturing Day, staff visited White Cross Nursery and Horizons Sixth Form, to talk about what Pennine do, how they do it, and how people can get involved.
The day began with White Cross Nursery school, the youngest audience of the day, with Pennine staff speaking about the very basics of manufacturing, looking at how familiar items are made.
In the afternoon, the team visited Horizons Sixth Form, where they exhibited samples from their production line.
They explained their role in ‘protecting life’, and how they are developing cutting-edge technology to drive the industry forward.
Students had time to interact with the products, ask questions, and find out more about Pennine’s facilities.
Dan Wilson, head of marketing at Pennine Healthcare, said: “It was great to visit schools in the local community and talk about the benefits of UK manufacturing, and the roles required within a manufacturer.
“We were very impressed by the students’ enthusiasm for manufacturing and understanding of different roles by the end of the session.
“It was a delightful experience for us to really see two very different age groups engage with us on this important day, who may, one day, shape the future of manufacturing.”
