Italian airline firms up order for Rolls-Royce powered jets
An Italian airline has firmed up an order for a fleet of new passenger aircraft, including jets powered by engines made by Rolls-Royce.
Italy’s new national carrier ITA Airways, has firmed up an order with Airbus for 28 aircraft, including seven A220s, 11 A320neos and 10 A330neos.
Rolls-Royce, which has its civil aerospace division in Derby, produces the Trent 7000 engine for the Airbus A330neo.
The order from ITA confirms a Memorandum of Understanding announced in September.
Ewen McDonald, Rolls-Royce civil aerospace’s chief customer officer, said: “We are delighted that ITA Airways has selected the Trent 7000 and this agreement represents the start of a great partnership.
“With an excellent fuel burn performance, the Trent 7000 is the perfect choice to support the airline’s aspirations. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
