IT manager helps to inspire the next generation
A manager at IT firm Fortitude Nicsa Global has been helping inspire the next generation as part of Black History Month.
Debbie Harriott, a corporate quality and compliance manager at the Derby-based IT support and managed services firm, has been supporting the Inspiring the Future Organisation.
Inspiring the Future is a free service developed in collaboration with teachers, offering support to state schools and colleges, with a particular focus on those in need.
Through a range of activities, volunteers from diverse backgrounds, including apprentices, CEOs, barristers, and technicians, bring real-world experiences to the classroom, helping students gain insights into different careers and subjects.
Debbie, who is of Jamaican origin, has been actively involved with the Inspiring the Future Organisation for the past three years, attending numerous events at schools and universities to share her inspiring story and experiences.
With the IT still regarded as mainly male dominated, Debbie, who has been working in management positions within the industry for almost a decade, has been working to inspire those from all backgrounds to pursue a career in the sector.
Black History Month, which has been taking place throughout October, is a national celebration, which aims to promote and celebrate the contributions of black individuals to British society and foster a greater understanding of black history.
In a statement, FNG said: “We are proud to celebrate Black History Month with Debbie’s involvement, as her Jamaican origins and powerful leadership make her a symbol of diversity and inclusion.
“Her contributions to the Inspiring the Future Organisation and her commitment to promoting understanding and equality are phenomenal.”
