Patients at two Derby hospitals have been treated to ballet performances thanks to Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity.

Last week, dancers from New Creations Collective Dance Company entertained visitors and patients with live ballet performances at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital and The Royal Derby Hospital.

It followed their gala performance at Derby Cathedral of Nightingale, which tells the life of Florence Nightingale through a blend of classical and contemporary dance.

They performed for adult and paediatric patients in both inpatient wards and outpatient areas.

It was made possible thanks to Air Arts, a leading programme under Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, which strives to integrate high-quality artistic experiences into healthcare environments.

Laura Waters, head of arts at the charity, said: “The Air Arts team is dedicated to providing enriching artistic experiences for our patients, visitors and staff.

“We were thrilled to introduce live ballet to our hospitals this summer. Research indicates that the arts, including dance, can positively impact health and recovery.

“Their performance offered patients, visitors and staff a beautiful and engaging diversion, bringing moments of joy during challenging times.”
