Players from Derby County Women have been helping the University of Derby celebrate Women’s History Month.

Ella Hilliard and Camille Jenkins recently joined staff and students to take part in a ‘Hands of Change’ event, which was organised by the Union of Students.

Participants painted their hands with brightly coloured paint and left their mark on a canvas board, creating a six-foot high mural, which will be on display at the university’s Kedleston Road site.

Holly Lloyd, president of the Union of Students, said: “The event was an opportunity to come together to celebrate the strength and impact of women in our community, and to mark International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.

“The Union of Students has a variety of initiatives throughout the year, which offer a great chance to connect with others, spark conversations and build new friendships.”

The University of Derby showed its support for Derby County Women by signing an agreement to become the Ewes’ front of shirt sponsor for the 2024/25 season.

Ella, who is also a Sports Journalism student at the university, said: “Derby County and the University of Derby have enjoyed a strong and positive relationship over the last 10 years, and it was great to be asked to take part in this event.”
