Double success for college twins

Twin brothers who both attend Derby College Group have both enjoyed success at a prestigious bricklaying competition.

George and Jonny McFarlane, both 17, who are apprentices at KR Brickwork, in Belper, and attend DCG’s Ilkeston site, recently took part in the regional finals of the Guild of Bricklayers competition.

George won the senior competition and Jonny the junior competition and both will now compete against apprentices from across the UK at the national finals in Cannock on 22 June.

College lecturer Clive Smith said: “This is the first time that apprentices from one college have reached the national finals of both the junior and senior Guild of Bricklayers competitions.

“The fact that they are twin brothers and work together for the same employer makes this even more special and we have high hopes for the lads at Cannock.

“We are very proud that they will now be representing Derby College at the national finals of this prestigious competition.”
