Derby has been included on a list of top places to visit in 2025 by an influential travel magazine.

The city and county have been included in Conde Nast Traveller’s ‘Best Place to Go in the UK in 2025’.

The list of nine locations, compiled by the magazine’s editors, picks out what they believe will be the top places for a staycation next year – and Derby and Derbyshire are one of their top picks.

As well as eulogising about the Peak District and Chatsworth House, the entry for Derby and Derbyshire singles out the forthcoming reopening of the historic Derby Market Hall next year.

The review states: “In Derby, the Grade II-listed Market Hall will emerge from a sparkling £35 million restoration in spring.

“Completed in 1866 by the same engineer who worked on the Royal Albert Hall’s dome, Derby Market Hall will feature a food court, artisan stalls and entertainment.”

Derby’s inclusion in Conde Nast Traveller’s list is the latest piece of positive national media coverage about the city’s tourism offer.

This year, Visit Derby has welcomed journalists from several national publications to experience a staycation in the city.

These visits have been supported by events, attraction and hospitality providers across the city, including Leonardo, The Stay Company and Holiday Inn Derby Riverlights.

Speaking about the Conde Nast Traveller list, Rob Gorton, chair of the Destination Derby Board, which drives forward ideas to boost the city’s visitor economy, said: “It’s really pleasing to see Derby and Derbyshire getting national recognition as a great place to visit.

“As chair of the Destination Derby Board, I know our members and the businesses they represent across Derby are working tirelessly to give people more reasons to visit our city, and to create great experiences when they do so.

“Visitors bring vibrancy as well as clear economic benefits.  A wide variety of events, attractions and types of accommodation make a city not only a great place to visit, but a brilliant place to live, work and study.

“Given this, the opportunity for Derby over the coming years is huge, with new investments like the Market Hall and Becketwell adding to the brilliant visitor and cultural offer, which continues to develop year on year.

“We look forward to seeing more positive national media content as Derby’s visitor offer continues to strengthen over the coming years.”
