Specialist child exploitation charity Safe and Sound has installed a community defibrillator at one of its locations thanks to a grant from the Department of Health and Social Care.

The defibrillator at its Community Hub, in Cotton Lane, is available 24/7 for use in the event of someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

It has been installed free of charge by Derby-based engineering company Arc Mechanical & Electrical.

Safe and Sound chief executive Tracy Harrison said: “As a charity, we support the whole local community and, having identified a lack of community automated external defibrillators in this part of Derby, we successfully applied for a government grant to buy this equipment.

“Our next task was to find someone who could ensure it was installed correctly on the external wall of our hub in Cotton Lane.

“Arc has done a great job, and we have already had very positive feedback from the local community in recognition that this could mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.”
