Deal completed for historic law firm

Law firm JH Powell & Co, which can trace its roots back to the 19th century, is now under new ownership.

The firm, which is based at Cathedral Chambers, in Amen Alley, has been acquired by Rotheras Solicitors.

The deal will see 15 JH Powell staff join the company, including two partners, taking Rotheras’ total headcount to 131.

JH Powell & Co was founded in Derby in 1873 by John Henry Powell.
Since then, the business has developed a broad and varied client base of businesses and individuals.

The firm moved to Amen Alley, opposite Derby Cathedral, in 1935.
The deal, which was completed towards the end of last month with Rotheras also includes those premises.
