People involved in the creative industries have hailed the success of a recent ‘make and trade’ pop-up event, which took place at Derby City Lab.
Last month, visitors to the St James’s Street venue, were encouraged to get hands on when it hosted ‘CRZyBest & Friends at Derby City Lab’.

Featuring some of the city’s most talented creatives, the two-week event saw them display and sell their work, as well as perform demonstrations and run hands-on workshops.
In total, more than 600 people visited the lab over the fortnight, according to Claire Zwozny-Bestwick – founder of CRZyBest, an eco-friendly silversmith and sculptor.
She said: “The event was more successful than I ever could have imagined.
“We had some fabulous visitors, made sales, met some fascinating people, had some fantastic conversations and been offered some amazing opportunities.

“I have had some amazing feedback from traders, both verbally and in writing.
“They have been so supportive of what we have done, and I know they would like to do more.
“Their comments have put such a big smile on my face and given me the confidence and encouragement to want to do more to support other micro businesses in Derby.
“I think the legacy of CRZyBest & Friends at Derby City Lab will be ongoing for quite a while.”

Opened last summer, Derby City Lab is based on the concept of Urban Rooms in cities such as London, Amsterdam and Shanghai.
It houses the City Living Room and hosts a rolling programme of dynamic exhibitions and discussion groups focused on ideas to regenerate Derby.
Such has been its impact that it has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.
It has been named as a finalist in the Public/Private Partnership category at the EG Awards 2023, which take place in London tonight.
Claire said: “If people are thinking of exhibiting there, then I would say ‘go for it’ – and use the opportunity as much as you can.
“I enjoyed being able to combine the conversations about small businesses with the positive regeneration of Derby.

“So, a tip for others is to make sure you brush up on what’s going on around you!
“It’s a fabulous opportunity to support Derby and the people in it!”
