Coronation marked with tree-planting

A tree-planting ceremony has taken place at one of Derby College Group’s sites to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III.

The Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, recently visited the college’s Broomfield Hall site to plant the magnolia tree near to the main entrance.

She was accompanied by Theresa Peltier, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire and Andrew Cochrane, Under Sheriff of Derbyshire and the chair of governors at Derby College Group.

Mrs Fothergill said: “It is such a privilege to commemorate the coronation of the King with the planting of a tree on behalf of Derby College Group.

“I am always inspired when I visit Broomfield, as the team of staff and volunteers are so dedicated and enthusiastic about their work and make a significant impact on the students’ lives.”

Jon Collins, assistant principle at Derby College Group, said: “We are very proud to be commemorating the King’s coronation in this way.

“It is important to us that we commemorate significant national events, and what better way than to do this than by planting such a beautiful tree that will continue to bloom and bring pleasure for generations of students to come.”
