Corolla enjoys double success at What Car? Awards once again
A car built by Toyota Manufacturing UK at its factory near Derby has retained two titles it won a year ago at the What Car? Awards.
At a recent ceremony in London, the Corolla, which is manufactured at Burnaston, won the same awards in scooped 12 months ago – with the Corolla Hatchback winning Family Car of the Year and the Corolla Touring Sports scooping the Best Value Estate Car of the Year award
Toyota said that the honours “reaffirm Corolla as one of the greats of motoring history, a model nameplate that’s appeared on well in excess of 50 million cars around the world across seven decades.
“They also reflect excellence in British manufacturing, being produced by Toyota Manufacturing UK at its Burnaston car plant in Derbyshire and powered by hybrid engines assembled at TMUK Deeside in North Wales.”
Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car?, said: “The Corolla is well priced and delivers remarkable real-world fuel economy.
“However, nothing shouts ‘economy’ when you sit inside it, because Toyota has used high-quality materials, and the standard of assembly is excellent.
“Ride comfort also impresses, while the steering is well weighted, and the handling composed.”
Speaking specifically about the Corolla Touring Sports, he said: “The Corolla Touring Sports is a unique and convincing proposition in the estate class, offering exceptionally low running costs, great resale values and lots of standard equipment for a very attractive price.”
Stuart Sanders, director of communications and product at Toyota (GB), said: “These awards demonstrate the genuine quality and value our Corolla hybrids are delivering at the heart of the new car market.
“As key players in our multi-path technology approach to ultimately achieving zero carbon, they provide high quality, accessible and practical options to help people to reduce their carbon footprint and make the transition to electrified mobility.”
