Two students at Derby College Group are celebrating after scooping awards for land-based and environmental activities.

Tobias Holmes was named the Animal Studies Learner of the Year and Carter Carter won the Animal Care and Management Learner of the Year Award at the annual Land-based and Environment Learner Awards.

The LBEL Awards are a partnership between Lantra, the land-based training body, and Landex, the representative body for land-based colleges and universities.

Stacey Higgs, curriculum manager (land-based) at DCG, said: “Toby’s incredible patience and determination have amazed us all.

“Despite facing personal loss, health challenges, and the need to support himself through work, he has consistently achieved a 2:1 in his animal management degree.

“Toby’s resilience and talent deserve clear recognition as he embarks on his promising future in veterinary practice.

“Carter’s hard work and dedication have been truly inspiring, earning the Animal Care and Management Learner of the Year Award. This outstanding achievement reflects a commitment to excellence and a passion for animal welfare. We are incredibly proud of this well-deserved recognition.”
