Coats appeal to help kids keep warm this winter

Derby City Council has launched an appeal asking for donations of quality warm coats to keep children warm this winter.

The Warm Coat Appeal, which will run throughout this month, aims to collect and distribute winter coats to help families who may be struggling with the rising cost of living.

It aims to help their children stay warm and reduce waste by encouraging people to share the coats they no longer use rather than throwing them away.
People are encouraged to help a family in need and donate any child’s winter coat for children aged 0-12 years that is in good condition.

Multiple locations have been set up across the city for coat donations and will be open throughout November.

These facilities include Derwent Children’s Centre (01332 641010), Osmaston and Allenton Children’s Centre (01332 956850), Rosehill Children’s Centre (01332 641315) and the Council House (0333 2006981).

Councillor Evonne Williams, the city council’s cabinet member for children, young people and skills, said: “These upcoming months will be difficult for all of us with the increased cost of living and the colder winter weather.

“There are some families in Derby who will not be able to buy winter items for their children.

“This is an important time for people in Derby to come together and help those in the community around them.

“I would like to strongly encourage anyone who has spare or old children’s coats that are no longer used and in good condition, to donate them to one of our children’s centres.

“If you have any friends or family that may have spare coats, please let them know about this appeal.”
