Charity opens new community hub to help most in need
YMCA Derbyshire has opened a new community hub in Derby to provide a range of services to individuals and families at risk of experiencing poverty and/or homelessness.
The Padley@YMCA Derbyshire Community Hub, which has opened in Parcel Terrace, is designed to be a vibrant centre, providing a variety of support including education, training, and housing advice.
The facility marks a significant step forward in YMCA Derbyshire’s mission to support and uplift the local community through comprehensive programmes and services.
In 2023, Padley became part of the YMCA Derbyshire group, which consolidates the charity’s efforts to combat homelessness and poverty in the city.
The new hub offers an opportunity to boost physical and mental wellbeing, build resilience and develop essential skills.
This will happen through educational workshops, wellness initiatives and assistance with access to crucial food and financial support.
The team aims to create a welcoming environment where individuals and families can thrive.
Key features of the community hub include community resilience activities, homelessness prevention, independent living skills workshops, getting ready for employment and volunteering and psychotherapy and ecotherapy sessions.
A community café, community kitchens and a community laundrette will also be available for individuals and families most at need to access additional help.
Gillian Sewell, chief executive of YMCA Derbyshire, said: “We’re incredibly excited to open the Padley@YMCA Community Hub, which represents our commitment to addressing the critical need for even more community services to relieve poverty and prevent homelessness.
“It is also fantastic to collaborate with some of the best organisations in the city, who will be working with us to ensure that we have a comprehensive support network, broadening our capacity to meet the diverse needs of our community.
“This hub will be a cornerstone for support, learning, and connection, providing vital services and opportunities for people of all ages.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone and working together to build a stronger, healthier community.”
