In the latest edition of Marketing Derby’s Innovate Magazine, we meet the incredible team at Treetops Hospice, the end-of-life charity which has been supporting patients and families for the past 40 years.

Based at Risley, the much-loved charity supports people with a range of life-limiting conditions, including cancer, dementia and heart disease, and those who have been bereaved.

Every year, Treetops assists more than 2,000 patients and their families completely free of charge.

Over the past 12 months alone, its Hospice at Home nurses have provided 16,900 hours of care for patients at the end of life, and trained counsellors have delivered more than 4,500 hours of bereavement counselling, including 900 sessions for children and young people.

Chief Executive Julie Heath, who took up the post in 2018, told Innovate: “To be celebrating 40 years of this wonderful charity is remarkable, especially given the current financial climate.”

Innovation has been key to Treetops over the years – with the charity constantly developing its services to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Julie said: “Our aim is to reach more people and to remind them that we’re here for care and support whenever they need us.

“And if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s just how powerful collaborative working can be.”

The support of the local business community has been crucial to the longevity of Treetops – and Julie is keen to continue building relationships with the corporate sector.

She told Innovate: “There are so many fabulous businesses and organisations in Derby and Derbyshire, many of whom have supported Treetops Hospice over the years.

“Going forward, we’re keen to build on corporate relationships, for example, by offering opportunities for businesses to volunteer their time to work in our garden – a great team-building exercise – and equally, how we can support them after the diagnosis, or death, of a colleague.”
