The founder of MiniAperture Photography is ‘feline’ confident about a new side venture she has launched which aims to capture ‘purrfect’ pictures of people’s cats.

Commercial photographer Laura Firth has recently launched The House Tiger Project, which aims to create wall art of people’s feline companions using fine art photography.

Laura, who is a self-confessed cat lover, decided to launch the sideline, which is in addition to MiniAperture, after seeing the rapid growth of the pet photography industry.

She said: “Most of it is centred around dogs and horses. As a self-confessed crazy cat lady, I felt like this was the niche I was born to fill.

“I’ve had cats of my own for as long as I can remember, and they have always been so much more to me than just a pet.”

Laura has named her sideline after the nickname she had for one of her cats who she lost to cancer in 2022.

She said: “Our pets are only with us for such a short time and losing them is as heart wrenching as losing any of our loved ones.

“I want to help owners celebrate their cats while they’re still with us and create beautiful portraits that will bring them joy for many years to come.”

Among Laura’s first clients was Lindsey Hatfield, commercial development manager at Marketing Derby, whose cats Bobby Dazzler and Nelly posed for pictures, which now appear on The House Tiger Project’s new website.

Lindsey said: “When Laura suggested a photoshoot with my two hooligans Bobby Dazzler and Nelly, I laughed – a lot!

“She had obviously never been to our house and met them before. Nelly will not be in the same room as her adopted brother if she can possibly avoid it and neither will perform on demand.

“She convinced me to try and what do you know? Laura really is the cat whisperer!

“Bobby spent an hour posing like a 90s supermodel, and although Nelly took a little more persuading, she did eventually fall for Laura’s charms. Thank you, the finished pictures are wonderful.”
