Bondholders support return of Derbados cycle challenge
Several Bondholders have given their support to a fun family cycling day – organised by the Derbyshire Institute of Sport, HUUB and Cycle Derby – which is set to return next month.
Families can now sign up for Derbados 2022, which is a day of biking fun starting at Markeaton Park on Sunday, April 3.
The event takes in a 5 parks challenge (Markeaton Park, Bass’ Recreation Ground, Alvaston Park, Darley Park and Markeaton Recreation Ground).
Participants can go the distance (11 miles) or stick to the city park course, which is around a mile.
Everyone who enters, no matter what distance they tackle, receives a free Derbados 2022 T-shirt, which carries the names of all 24 event sponsors, which includes a number of Bondholders, including Marketing Derby.
Every child under 12 who takes part also receives a free medal.
The aim of Derbados 2022, which takes place from 10am to 4pm, is to encourage people of all ages and abilities to cycle, get fit and enjoy being outdoors.
It is part of the countdown to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games this summer and comes in DIS’s tenth anniversary year.
DIS’s managing director Chloe Maudsley said: “We are delighted to bring Derbados back.
“It has always been a hugely popular event and focuses on families getting on their bikes to raise money for the DIS and to promote cycling.
“We’re asking families or individuals to sign up, come along and have a super day.
“It will help them feel fitter, get back in the community after a difficult couple of years and enjoy some fresh air.
“Our generous sponsors have again allowed us to offer a free T-Shirt to all.”
This year’s event includes the support of Cycle Derby, which will be giving visitors the chance to try out a range of standard and inclusive bikes that cater for all ages and abilities.
Cycle Derby’s Mark Smith said: “Cycle Derby is delighted to support our partners DIS by hosting the 5 parks ride.
“On this short ride that links key city parks, families of all ages and abilities will be able to experience the physical and mental benefits cycling brings.
“Cycle Derby has a fleet of over 40 inclusive bikes and many of them will be available on the day for families to try.”
The event is being backed by nine times Paralympic swimming medallist Martin Mansell.
He said: “I’m extremely pleased to be associated with this new cycling initiative, which provides opportunities for people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities to take part in a physical activity which is both cardiovascular and socially engaging.
“We have to remember all Olympians and Paralympians, no matter which sport they represent, started out at a grassroots level – it is where it all begins.
“I am delighted to be part of a family event that promotes inclusivity and the many benefits of cycling for all.”
