Matthew Montague Architects is celebrating after securing planning approval for the design of a new ultra-modern home in Derby.

Derby City Council has approved the four-bedroom dwelling, which will be built on land belonging to The Mount, in Duffield Road.

The majority of the site was previously within the curtilage of the property at 6 Stanley Close, prior to being purchased by the owners of The Mount.

The house that was originally submitted and approved for planning in 2021 divided opinions.

According to Matthew Montague Architects, some loved its modern design, while others thought the design was too futuristic.

The design has since been refreshed with a revised planning application being approved.

Architect Daniel Evans said: “The new design is slightly larger than the original dwelling. The layout has been revised and a basement has been added.

“We’ve improved the design slightly with more detail and architectural interest.”

The new home will be set over three floors with four bedrooms, spacious open plan living accommodation, gym, hobby room and study.

There will be parking for three cars, each with its own electrical charging point.

According to Matthew Montague Architects, will be a “fundamentally sustainable, highly insulated, green energy building”.

Established 25 years ago, Matthew Montague Architects has designed some of Derbyshire’s best-known buildings, including Lonsdale House and the dining room at Repton Preparatory School

It is now helping to bring the University of Derby’s City Masterplan to life with an ambitious plan to redevelop the area between Agard Street and Nuns Street, creating a green and vibrant link between its Enterprise Centre and its Business School, which is due to open next year.
