Medal recognition for competition garden

Horticulture students at Derby College Group are celebrating after a garden they design secured a medal in a national competition.

The mature students from the college’s Bloomfield Hall campus recently competed in the Gardeners World Live exhibition and competition at the NEC, entering a garden design that celebrated and unveiled the Derby MS Society’s transformation into The Lilian Prime Trust.



The garden won a silver medal in the professional category,

The students are on the college’s Level 3 study programme, which has been specially devised by DCG horticulture lecturer Mike Baldwin to bring together skills and knowledge in surveying, design, plantsmanship and construction – ideal for students who want to establish a gardening business.

Mike said: “We have a great track record for winning medals in the competitions that we entered over the years, and I am delighted that the students’ vision and hard work has been recognised with this very worthy silver medal at Gardeners World Live.

“The feedback from the Lilian Prime Trust, our sponsors and all the visitors has been extremely positive.”
