Swimming star swaps Olympic rings for doughnut rings
Olympic champion swimmer Adam Peaty has been celebrating his double gold medal-winning performance in Tokyo with doughnuts made by Project D.
At a homecoming celebration, held after winning two golds and a silver at the games, his family laid on a huge spread – which included a special order from the Spondon-based bakery.
The order included two super-sized doughnuts – one decorated as a gold medal and the other finished with blue icing to resemble water.
The 26-year-old took to his Instagram account, posting a picture of himself holding the tailor-made mega doughnuts, with the caption “Eating my weight in Project Doughnut”.
Despite a further 80 doughnuts being ordered for the party, there is no danger of Adam putting on weight as he will soon be in the unfamiliar surroundings of a dance studio as he prepares to appear in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, which begins on BBC1 next month.
Jacob Watts, operations director at Project D, said: “It’s amazing to think that Adam Peaty, a double Olympic gold-winning champion and the fastest swimmer in the world, is a fan of our doughnuts.
“Like many others, we watched and celebrated his achievements out in Tokyo, so it was an absolute privilege to receive the order for his homecoming party and we were thrilled to create the Olympic themed mega-doughnuts especially for him.
“I can’t say we’re your typical Strictly fans, but we’ll certainly be paying attention to how he gets on.
“Maybe we’ll even create a special glitter-ball themed doughnut if he wins that too.”
