New cycling facility opens to encourage sustainable travel

Derby City Council has opened a new secure cycle facility in the city as part of its commitment to promote and encourage sustainable travel.

Located inside Bold Lane car park, the city council has worked with Parksafe Systems to deliver a secure and segregated lock up facility, accessible only by smart card.

Access to the area is only available to those who have purchased a monthly membership. Two membership options are now available to purchase through MiPermit – please click here.

A limited number of memberships are available but and if the scheme proves successful, it is hoped that capacity will be increased to match demand.

Councillor Matthew Holmes, cabinet member for regeneration, decarbonisation and strategic transport, said: “We were aware that there was a lack of secure lockup facilities for cyclists in Derby.

“We are extremely pleased that this project can offer users a safe option and at the same time encourage more people to stay active and cycle into the city and improve the local environment.”

The scheme is part of Derby and Nottingham’s Future Transport Zone programme, which secured £16.7 million from the Department for Transport to invest in solutions to improve public transport connectivity and encourage sustainable travel.
