A new fund has been launched by a group of Marketing Derby Bondholders, which aims to raise money for people and organisations who need it the most.

The Friends of Derby 500 Club has been initiated by Rachel Morris, from Relate, Mark Richardson, from BB&J Commercial, Neil White, from Black & White PR and Jane Witherow, from Derby City Council.

It aims to pull together 500 like-minded people, who each set up a standing order for £1 a week into a fund, giving the group £500 a week to give to someone who needs it.

The community of 500 then keep an ear out for local people, friends, neighbours, colleagues, worthy causes and local charities – and can nominate them to receive the £500.

Rachel said: “Most funding streams come with huge lists of restrictions about what can and can’t be funded, not always based on the client’s most pressing needs. They can also take a long time for the application to proceed.

“The Friends 500 model is perfect. A quick cash injection when it is needed most and based on individual circumstances.”
