A collaboration between Derby City Council and Katapult, which resulted in the creation of the Derby Market Place Alfresco Dining Experience has been shortlisted for a top regional award.

The partnership, which saw the venue created at the city’s Market Place, has been shortlisted in the Excellence in Collaboration category at East Midlands Chamber’s Derbyshire Business Awards.

The venue was created in the Market Place last year as a Covid-safe place for visitors to eat and drink.

It then returned this year following the easing of government restrictions.

Marketing Derby Bondholders dominate the Excellence in Collaboration category – with partnerships involving Penguin PR, Colleague Box and Vibrant Accountancy, along with Safe and Sound and The Swap Shop all receiving nominations.

In terms of companies with the most nominations, SureScreen Diagnostics leads the way with three.

The company, which is supplying millions of lateral flow tests to the Government, is up for the Outstanding Growth, Excellence in International Trade and Excellence in Innovation awards.

In the Excellence in Innovation category, it is joined by fellow Bondholder Scenariio, a company which also has a nomination in the Business Improvement Through Technology category.

Completing a hat-trick of Bondholder nominations in the Excellence in Innovation category is HSG UK.

Like SureScreen, Project D, the Derby-based doughnut maker, is a finalist in the Outstanding Growth category, where it also lines up against Sky Recruitment Solutions.

Project D is also up for Small Business of the Year, along with fellow Bondholder Think3.

Another Bondholder with a brace of nominations is Purpose Media.

It is shortlisted for the Commitment to People Development Award, alongside Nelsons.

Purpose is also up for the Excellence in Customer Service award, alongside fellow nominee Anoki.

Derby College Group and Embark Federation will contest the Education and Business Partnership Award.

And Devtank, along with the DE-Carbonise Project, which is supported by Derby City Council and the University of Derby, are up for the Environmental Impact Award.

In terms of individual awards, three Bondholders are finalists in the Entrepreneur of the Year category. They are Adam Bamford (Colleague Box), Peter Ellse (Cosy Direct) and Max Vaughan (White Peak Distillery).

Finally, Tom Sharratt, of Neuways, is up for Apprentice of the Year.

Winners will be chosen during a virtual judging day by a panel, including sponsors, a chamber board member and a representative from the chamber’s senior leadership team.

An overall Business of the Year will also be selected from all the finalists by principal sponsors Mazars.

Pending government guidance, the chamber is hoping that the Derbyshire Business Awards will be a physical event, taking place on Friday, 12 November.

Scott Knowles, chief executive of East Midlands Chamber, said: “There were so many examples of incredible innovation, growth and resilience among our members in the entries, giving us a chance to shout about all the great things our region has to offer.”
