Derby Grammar School has bid a fond farewell to its headteacher following three years of continued growth and success.

Dr Ruth Norris is leaving the leading independent school after being headhunted to take the helm at one of the world’s leading international schools in Switzerland.

After joining as head in June, 2018, she implemented a range of improvements at the school.

A new senior leadership team has been created, with academic, pastoral and co-curricular focus at its core.

Dr Norris has also been instrumental in Derby Grammar School achieving a meteoric rise in GCSE and A Level results over the last two years.

On the final day of term, she sent a heartfelt letter to parents, which read: “It has been an honour to have served Derby Grammar School since 2018.

“We have moved through challenging times, navigating the complexities of Covid-19 – but this has not overshadowed what has also been an extremely rewarding time.

“I have been privileged in watching our pupils grow into remarkable young people, equipped to deal with life’s challenges. Your children are a credit to you all, and I speak on behalf of the whole staff team that it is a true pleasure to work in such a special community.”

Her replacement, Paul Logan, will join the school as headteacher in September.
