Homeless charity agrees deal for new home

The Padley Group has announced it has agreed a deal for a new location for its day centre.

The homeless charity is relocating its Padley Centre from Becket Street to make way for the Becketwell regeneration project.

Although it is yet to exchange contracts, the charity has revealed it has agreed to buy The Limes, in Charnwood Street, which will become the new Padley Centre.

The charity, which provides a range of services to help and support homeless and vulnerable people, said it is being “significantly supported” both financially and logistically by Derby City Council.

The Padley Group said it expects to move into its new, refurbished premises at the beginning of next year.

Meanwhile, services at its existing Padley Centre – at Padley House – reopened last month following the easing of lockdown measures.

In a statement, the charity said: “The premises should be ideal for our new approach to ‘day centre’ services with more space for support and training activities.

“Architects have been engaged and we are confident that these new premises will enable us to meet our charitable objectives better than ever before.

“It has taken almost a year to get to this point but if all goes smoothly from now on in it will have been very worthwhile the wait.”
