Bloc Digital has lifted the lid on a brand new app it has designed for the forthcoming Derby Ram Trail.

Rescheduled from last summer, the Derby Ram Trail is being brought to the city by Derby Museums, in partnership with Wild in Art.

The public art sculpture event will feature 30 individually painted 5ft tall rams, threading through the city centre between 27 May and 22 August.

A number of businesses and organisations have sponsored a ram, including Marketing Derby and a host of Bondholders.

Ahead of its launch, Bloc Digital has designed a mobile app, which will guide and entertain visitors around the impressive sculpture tour.

The firm’s digital visualisation and immersive tech teams have donated their services free of charge to design, develop and produce the mobile solution, which will be freely available for visitors to download.

Keith Cox, director at Bloc Digital, said: “The Derby Ram Trail reflects the combination of creativity, innovation and interactivity that is at the heart of Derby’s industrial history and also our own business.

“As the trail’s digital partner, we’re delighted to donate our skills and expertise to enable local communities and visitors to celebrate our city’s rich art, heritage and culture through creative digital technology.”

According to Bloc Digital, the free-to-download app has a real sense of ‘quest’ with visitors digitally ‘collecting’ and interacting with the rams along the way.

As well as providing a guide around the trail, the app also provides background details of the rams’ artistic creators and information on their business community sponsors.

As visitors approach the sculptures the app triggers special digital ‘ARTe-Facts’ – nuggets of information and images linked to key objects in Derby Museums.

Jennifer Cuadrado, from Derby Museums, said: “The Derby Ram Trail app wonderfully captures the trail’s sense of fun, scale, culture and creativity.

“The layers of information and fascinating facts add an inspiring dimension to the trail and open a door to the amazing collections we have at Derby Museums.

“We’re very much looking forward to visitors taking part and sharing their quests!”

Details of how to access and download the app will be released around the official launch with further information available on the Derby Ram Trail website derbyramtrail.org.
