Live music will grace the Derby Market Place over the coming weekends to keep diners entertained.

The Alfresco Dining Sessions will feature live acoustic bands, DJ sets and a steel pan band, giving the local cultural sector a boost, while setting the scene for good times in a Covid-secure environment.

The Rockin’ Robin Sessions, which will feature relaxing acoustic sounds, will take place on Saturday, 12 June, from 12noon to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm.

The Baby People Sessions will take place on Friday, 28 May, from 6pm to 9pm and Friday, 11 June, from 6pm to 9pm.

Baby People is a music and arts development organisation, and the UK’s first dedicated hip-hop school, which uses art and culture to engage and support the needs of the most deprived in our communities.

The Pure Steel Sessions will take place on Saturday, 29 May, from 6pm and 9pm and Saturday, 5 June, from 6pm to 9pm.

It will feature steel pan group Pure Steel, who will perform three 30 min sets each session.

The performances represent the latest phase in the gradual opening-up of Derby Market Place in line with the lifting of Government restrictions.

Future plans include a marquee alongside the dining area. Tickets are now on sale for The Wind in the Willows, a summer family show by Derby Theatre, with more announcements to follow.

Councillor Robin Wood, Derby City Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “We are delighted to be bringing back Derby Market Place this year.

“This next phase enables us to support our local cultural partners, with exciting plans for the summer to welcome audiences back to live shows when it is safe to do so.”

All of the Alfresco Dining Sessions are free but booking is advised. To book call 01332 255800 or click here.
