Swimmer making a big splash for hospice
A selfless swimmer is celebrating her 60th birthday by completing 60 ‘wild swims’ in a bid to raise money for Treetops Hospice.
Gaynor Bentley is raising funds for the Risley-based hospice after it provided support for her late mum, Ada Clayton, from Heanor, via its Hospice at Home Service.
Hospice at Home nurses provided end of life care in Ada’s own home, including overnight stays.
Gaynor said: “I want to be able to give back to this amazing charity, who provided us with nurses who would care for mum through the night to give me a night off from caring for her.
“This meant I could have a good night’s sleep and recharge my batteries. I wouldn’t have got through without them.”
Gaynor has already completed three of her 60 swims – battling sub-zero temperatures and snow.
