Luxury doughnut-maker Project D has announced it is to start distributing its products nationwide.

The artisan bakery, which has provided handcrafted doughnuts to the likes of Amazon, Love Island and Coca-Cola, is introducing a postal delivery service covering England and Wales.

The ambitious plans follow the company’s recent expansion into a larger Derby bakery and the recruitment of almost 100 additional staff.

Currently, the firm only delivers between Leeds and Birmingham. Now, via DPD’s next day delivery service, it will cover the rest of England and Wales.

Max Poynton, one of Project D’s directors said: “We want as many people as possible to enjoy our handcrafted doughnuts.

“Lockdown has pushed us to devise new ways to get our products out there, including our pop-ups, which have attracted a stream of people. It has been incredible and we’re very excited to take the next big step onto the national stage.”

The doughnuts will be delivered in corrugated cardboard boxes, with six individual sections to ensure the sweet treats arrive in perfect condition.

The doughnuts will be baked overnight for delivery the next day, to guarantee they will still be fresh.

Project D’s most popular creations will be among the first to be available nationally.

They include the Homer, a ring doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles and the Biscoff with a caramel base and blended Lotus Biscoff crumb.

Max said: “We’ve put a lot of thought and time into this to ensure the doughnuts are fresh and in supreme condition on arrival.

“We know we will be in competition with some really big baking names – but we know our doughnuts are a cut above the rest and we’re looking forward to sharing the Project D love with an even bigger audience.”

Orders can be placed via the Project D website.
