Former Barclays building deal

The Department for Work and Pensions is to move into a former Derby banking centre.

Salloway Property Consultants secured the tenant for the building in Sir Frank Whittle Road, which was last occupied by Barclays Bank.

Hugo Beresford, from Salloway Property Consultants, described the letting as a boost to the local office market.

He said: “There has been considerable interest in the property, mainly from prospective purchasers, but our client has always preferred to let the building.

“A single 10,000 sq ft office letting to a public sector tenant is a great outcome and I’m proud to have been involved.”

It is understood that the building will be repurposed by the DWP and will operate as a new Job Centre, providing working-age support services to those in need within the local area.

Hugo, who brokered the deal on behalf of private pension fund clients, said: “The property comprises approximately 10,400 sq ft on two floors and has 50 car parking spaces.

“It is a prominent, well-known building in a very convenient location and I am sure it will be ideal for DWP’s purposes.”
