D2N2 gives civic buildings plan £2m boost

Plans to redevelop civic buildings in a Derbyshire market town have been given a £2 million boost thanks to the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

High Peak Borough Council’s plans to revamp the buildings in Glossop will receive the cash injection from the LEP via the organisation’s Getting Building Fund allocation.

The £5.5 million project will see the currently predominantly vacant buildings, based in the centre of the town, repurposed for a mixture of new uses including office, meeting spaces for commercial and community use and the introduction of a new mezzanine floor to create new studio space for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The Market Hall, which will have its suspending ceiling removed and superfast broadband installed, will be upgraded into a new flexible event space with central seating accommodating food and drink businesses, alongside the retention of existing retailers in the arcade.

It is hoped that when complete, the development will revitalise the centre of the town, encouraging new footfall, while creating more than 100 jobs and assisting around 20 businesses.

The project is one of 10 across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire which has received funding from D2N2’s £44 million share of the Government’s £900 million Getting Building Fund.
