Derby Museums is to hold its first-ever virtual auction to raise vital funds, which will go towards securing its long-term future.

Hosted by auctioneer and television personality Charles Hanson, the auction will be live-streamed from Hanson’s Auction House on Thursday, 11th February.

It will help to raise money to support Derby Museums’ Endowment – a vital part of its strategy to secure its long-term sustainability.

Derby Museums is one of a small number of heritage organisations to have been awarded a match-funded Endowment Grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

This means that every pound donated to Derby Museums will be doubled up to a total of £1 million, creating a £2 million Endowment Fund to help secure its future.

Executive director Tony Butler said: “At this particularly challenging time, we hope that people will support this event by donating prizes and bidding on the night.

“It will be a fun and entertaining evening, with all monies raised matched pound-for-pound by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to help build our £1 million Endowment.”

Derby Museum’s said that an assortment of donated prizes will be on offer at the auction to excite and entice bidders, ranging from sports memorabilia to vineyard tours and items of porcelain.

Auction prizes are still being collected and prize donations are welcomed -interested parties should contact: sarah.smith@derbymuseums.org for more information.

The virtual auction will be live-streamed from 7pm. Registration to bid can be found at www.hansonslive.co.uk where the auction catalogue will go live the week before the event.
