Whipping up a storm

Project Whippy's recent launch, the brainchild of the entrepreneurs behind Bondholder Project Doughnut, has been a real success.

The launch of Project Whippy saw hundreds of people turn up to try the eye-catching indulgence, with more than 100 conuts (ice cream cones made with doughnuts) being snapped up every hour!

Believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, the food fusion is being sold from a custom-made traditional ice cream van, complete with registration W99 HPY, which will be positioned at locations across the city. Project Whippy is also selling doughnuts filled with ice cream, which are warm on the outside and frozen in the centre.

Max Poynton, Project Whippy co-owner, said: “We knew our invention was pretty amazing, but to see so many people with massive smiles on their faces enjoying their first conut was really exciting.

“There is so much more to come – we have an fantastic range of toppings that Project Doughnut customers have come to know and love and they are all waiting to go on top of a conut.”

The ice cream conuts have already been making waves on social media with Project Whippy gaining almost 6,000 followers on Instagram in less than a week.

In addition, the company's recent appeal for doughnut taste tester has received almost 25,000 online applications. Among these were dedicated doughnut fans in South America, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Croatia, Beirut and even the self-appointed home of the ‘donut’, New York.

Successful volunteers, who must be based in the UK, will receive a box of four different doughnuts once a week for a month and must provide feedback on quality, selection, flavours and toppings.

The taste testers, who will be announced on August 14th, will also get sneak previews of future products and be the first to try out new flavours.
