Students’ design showcase
Imaginative visions for key regeneration sites in Derby have been presented by students at Bondholder the University of Derby, including a plan for a subterranean “Erasmus Darwin” planetarium in the Market Place.
For several years, Marketing Derby has collaborated with the University and its final year students on the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Venue Design and BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology and Practice courses to showcase the very best ideas and designs.
The top ten designs this year, chosen by University lecturing staff, were collated in an online gallery and presented, through Zoom, by senior lecturer Dr Boris Ceranic to delegates at the Derby Property Zoommit who said: “The maturity and level of passion shown by the student, combined with the architectural and urban design quality and the way it's been presented is a great credit to the students and the university. In these challenging times for all towns and cities, these designs provide a visual stimulus for anyone with an interest in re-imagining and rejuvenating city centres.”
The work involved creating a masterplan to understand and enhance the physical and visual links of a place, before focussing on a specific building. Areas chosen for their designs included the Assembly Rooms, Market Place, Market Hall, Middleton House and Cathedral Green areas of the city.
The gallery of work can be viewed online here and is part of the University of Derby Degree Show.
